Chamber of Commerce plenary activity
Christine Witthöft has been
together with the initiative "Strong Economy Hamburg", member of the Chamber of Commerce plenum, the highest decision-making body of the Chamber of Commerce
"I am a Chamber of Commerce plenary member because a strong economic orientation of the Chamber of Commerce and our Hamburg metropolitan region is important to me.
I am committed to ensuring that small and medium-sized businesses in Hamburg and their consultancy industry get advocates in our city to make enough funds available for digitization and as an economic engine. In the future, the Chamber of Commerce could be the central point of contact for small and medium-sized companies who want to find out how digitization can help their own company. Also in the added value of the Chamber of Commerce as a coordination point with all-round support for founders and start-up entrepreneurs, I see great potential to develop Hamburg into a founding metropolis.
I think the realignment of the Chamber of Commerce is extremely important and we need your support for this.
I look forward to being able to steer the future of the Chamber of Commerce and Hamburg in the right direction."
Christine Witthöft
Initiative "Starke Wirtschaft Hamburg"
The Chamber of Commerce has been the self-administration of Hamburg's commercial economy since 1665. It represents the interests of around 160,000 companies vis-à-vis politics and administration, is a customer-oriented service provider for our member companies and an independent advocate for the market, competition and fair play. We advise companies, we bundle interests and we educate people. Over 700 entrepreneurs from industry, trade and services volunteer with us as elected representatives of their industries in over 30 committees. They make a decisive contribution to the formation of opinions in the Chamber of Commerce. In addition, 4,000 voluntary company representatives take the exams in the dual vocational training, which the state has assigned us by law as a sovereign task. Our motto is: "We act for Hamburg".

The Chamber of Commerce plenary
The plenum is the highest decision-making body of the Chamber of Commerce and, roughly speaking, the representation of Hamburg's economy and thus determines the guidelines of the Chamber of Commerce work. It also elects the President and Vice-Presidents of our Chamber of Commerce from among its ranks, who in turn appoint the Chief Executive Officer.
At the beginning of 2020, the Hamburg companies will elect the members of the plenum in nine electoral groups, which represent all sectors and company sizes of Hamburg's economy. The number of seats in an electoral group in the plenary session depends on the economic importance of the respective branch. This means that all branches of the economy are adequately represented. In each electoral group, seats are also reserved for small, medium-sized and large companies. The plenary is thus the reflection of the Hamburg economy.
How will the plenary 2020-2024 be composed exactly?
58 members of the plenary will be directly elected by the members of the Chamber at the beginning of 2020, from January 20. Up to nine plenary members can be indirectly elected by the directly elected plenary members. The prerequisite for elections is always that the plenum determines a need to refine the mirror image of the plenum.
